“The iconic Multnomah Falls in Columbia River Gorge is the tallest waterfall in Oregon. It’s also one of the most popular, probably because of its accessibility, but that doesn’t stop me from taking pictures of it every time I visit. This is definitely a must see if you visit Portland as it’s only 30 minutes away.”
“There’s nothing quite like the Southern, Oregon coast!”
“One can’t help but feel small walking amongst these giant Redwoods. Some of these trees can reach heights of over 300ft and live for nearly 2,000 years! It’s hard to fathom the enormity of these trees until you’re standing beside them. I was shooting photos with my 16mm lens and it was barely wide enough to see the tops of the trees.”
“The trail to Silver Creek Falls had many great vantage points, but sometimes you have to venture off the beaten path to find what you’re looking for.”
Be sure to check out @operativbrand and @cyorkphoto on Instagram over the next few days for our next giveaway package!

“Elowah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is considered to be a favorite amongst the locals in the PNW. So getting to finally photograph there was a treat! It wasn’t without a challenge though, as the trail was closed the first time we tried to visit. A section of the trail had collapsed months earlier, so we tried again a week later and was able to find another route. Thanks to my brother for letting me borrow his waders to stand waist deep in water to get this shot. It was well worth it!” - Cody York

I always do a ton of research to map out my trips so I can get awesome photos. But things don’t always go according to plan. Originally we were going to head to Northern Washington to visit Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier, but due to bad weather those plans changed and we headed South along the Oregon coast instead. I’m so glad we did because I was able to shoot this beautiful sunset at Thor’s Well. The truth is you can plan and plan and plan, but in the end you just have to go with the flow – Cody York
Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing the stunning journey of our good friend and Operativ photographer, Cody York, on his way through the Pacific Northwest. Cody made a name for himself for well over a decade as a photographer in the BMX, skate, action sports industry, being published in all of the big names like ESPN, Ride BMX, DIG, BMX Plus!, Redbull, and documenting hundreds of events like the X Games, DewTour, and so many more. He continued to follow his passions along side his profession as a photographer, branching out into photographing his favorite bands, and outdoor lifestyle and landscape photography to name a few. Keep an eye out here on the Operativ site and Cody’s social media @cyorkphoto to see what he captured in the PNW.
“The first stop on our PNW trip was Fairy Falls in the Columbia River Gorge. This appropriately named waterfall is a short, but steep (600ft), hike along the Wahkeena Trailhead and offers stunning views of the Gorge along the way. It’s a bit of a hike but definitely well worth it!” – Cody York
